Ruqyah in the Qur’an & Sunnah
Ruqyah is an Islamic religious practice involving Qur’anic recitation, authentic supplications, and remembrance of Allah. It is discussed in the Qur’an and Sunnah in relation to matters such as seeking protection, spiritual comfort, and healing from Allah.
The Qur’an describes itself as healing and mercy for the believers:
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌۭ وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
“And We send down of the Qur’an that which is healing and mercy for the believers.”
Surah Al-Isra 17:82
The Sunnah also contains examples of Ruqyah through Qur’anic recitation and authentic supplications. Muslims may practice Ruqyah as part of their worship while seeking Allah’s protection, mercy, and healing.
Ruqyah is a religious and spiritual practice, not medical or psychiatric treatment. It does not provide a method for diagnosing physical or mental-health conditions or determining that a particular health concern is caused by jinn, sihr, or the evil eye.
