What are the morning and evening adhkar?
The adhkar are a set of supplications recited after Fajr and after Asr or Maghrib. They are the foundation of daily protection in Islam, and their omission is the most common gap in otherwise observant households.
The core
- Ayat al-Kursi (2:255), once
- Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas, three times each
- The dua of refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He created, three times. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said whoever says it will not be harmed
- The dua asking Allah, in whose name nothing harms, neither on earth nor in the heavens, three times
- Sayyid al-Istighfar, the master supplication for forgiveness
- SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi, one hundred times
The whole set takes about five minutes.
Consistency is the entire mechanism. Five minutes every day for a year is a completely different thing from an hour once a month, and it is what the sources actually prescribe as protection.
Most people who maintain this never need treatment for anything.
