What are the signs of the evil eye?

Practitioners describe a distinctive pattern: sudden onset immediately after a blessing was noticed or praised.

Commonly reported signs include:

  • Abrupt fatigue and heaviness with no cause, often beginning the same day
  • Excessive yawning, particularly during Quranic recitation
  • Sudden headache or a feeling of pressure
  • A blessing collapsing right after it was displayed or admired: a business faltering after being praised, health declining after a photograph, a marriage souring after being envied
  • Loss of appetite
  • Unexplained low mood arriving suddenly
  • In children, sudden fever, persistent crying, or refusal to feed

The timing is what practitioners weigh, not the symptoms themselves. These are ordinary experiences on their own. What is treated as significant is a clear before and after, tied to a specific moment of attention.

Sudden fatigue in a child with fever still needs a doctor. The eye and an infection produce the same picture, and only one of them is diagnosable.
