How do I protect my children from the evil eye?
Children attract admiration constantly, which is why the Sunnah gives specific protection for them.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, sought refuge for Hasan and Husayn with the words asking Allah, by His perfect words, to protect them from every devil, every harmful creature, and every envious eye. He noted that Ibrahim, peace be upon him, used the same words for his sons.
Practical habits
- Recite the mu'awwidhat over them each night, blowing into cupped hands and wiping over them
- Say masha Allah, tabarak Allah when you admire them, out loud, so they learn it too
- Teach relatives and friends the same habit, warmly rather than as a correction
- Be thoughtful about how much you display publicly, particularly online, where admiration is constant and untracked
Do not let this become fear. Some parents become so anxious about the eye that they hide their children, refuse photographs, and treat every visitor as a threat. That is not protection, and children absorb that anxiety.
Recite over them, teach the habit, and trust Allah.
