Why is Surah Al-Baqarah recommended for the home?

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said that shaytan flees from a house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited. He also instructed that homes not be turned into graveyards, understood as houses empty of recitation.

It is the longest surah in the Quran, which puts people off unnecessarily. In practice:

• Play a recitation while cooking, cleaning, or working. This costs no additional time from anyone
• Recite it yourself across several sessions rather than in one sitting
• Put it on in a room that feels heavy
• Play it at low volume overnight if that suits your household

Regularity beats completeness. A household where it is heard several times a week is doing what the instruction intends, whether or not anyone finishes it in a single sitting.

The surah contains Ayat al-Kursi and the closing verses that the Prophet said would suffice whoever recites them at night, so listening to it covers a great deal at once.
