How do I protect my children every day?

The Prophet, peace be upon him, sought refuge for Hasan and Husayn with words asking Allah, by His perfect words, to protect them from every devil, every harmful creature, and every envious eye. He noted that Ibrahim, peace be upon him, used the same for his sons.

A simple nightly routine

  • Recite Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas over them, blowing into cupped hands and wiping over them
  • Recite Ayat al-Kursi
  • Say the dua above by name for each child
  • Teach them the short surahs as soon as they can learn them

Through the day

  • Say masha Allah, tabarak Allah when you admire them, out loud, so they hear it as ordinary speech
  • Say bismillah over their food
  • Teach relatives the same habit, warmly rather than as a correction

Do not let this become fear. Some parents grow so anxious about the eye that they hide their children and treat visitors as threats. Children absorb that anxiety, and it costs them more than it protects them.

Recite, teach the habit, and trust Allah.
