How do I protect my marriage?
Marriage attracts both envy and sihr, and it is also the relationship most often damaged by suspicion about them. Both need addressing.
Spiritual
- Pray together, even occasionally
- Recite over each other, which is Sunnah and needs no practitioner
- Recite Ayat al-Kursi and the three surahs before sleeping, both of you
- Say masha Allah about each other and about the marriage, rather than displaying it for admiration
- Say bismillah before intimacy, and the dua seeking refuge from shaytan
Practical, which matters as much
- Speak about problems while they are small
- Do not display the marriage publicly, particularly online, where admiration is constant and untracked
- Keep in-law interference within limits, kindly but firmly
- Both see a doctor if either becomes withdrawn or irritable, since depression flattens affection and is frequently mistaken for something else
And never voice suspicion about a relative. An accusation cannot be withdrawn, and more marriages in this field have been damaged by suspicion of sihr than by sihr.
