Can the evil eye come from someone who loves you?

Yes, and this is the point most people find surprising.

The eye does not require malice. A mother looking at her own child with delight, a close friend genuinely thrilled at your good news, a grandparent admiring a newborn. Where the admiration passes without the blessing being returned to Allah, harm can follow.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, addressed this directly. When one companion admired another's appearance and the man collapsed, the Prophet asked why the one who admired had not asked for barakah, and instructed him to wash so that the affected man could be treated with the water.

The corrective is not suspicion of the people who love you. It is habit: teaching everyone around you to say masha Allah, tabarak Allah when they admire, and doing the same yourself.

Someone who genuinely loves you will adopt the habit gladly once they understand it.
