Your Role in Your Ruqyah Practice: Why the Session Is the Smaller Part

Updated: Aug 14

Religious & Health Information Notice: This article discusses Islamic religious beliefs and practices for educational purposes. The information here is not diagnostic criteria for sihr, jinn, evil eye, or any medical or mental-health condition. Similar experiences can have physical, psychological, environmental, or other causes. Bukhari Ruqyah does not provide medical or psychiatric diagnosis. Seek appropriate professional healthcare for health concerns, and do not discontinue or delay prescribed care because of information on this website.

Ruqyah Is Not Limited to a Session

A Ruqyah session with a practitioner is only one possible form of an Islamic religious practice. Muslims can perform self-Ruqyah through Qur'anic recitation and authentic supplication while seeking help and protection from Allah.

Build Your Own Religious Practice

  • Maintain the five daily prayers.

  • Recite Qur'an regularly.

  • Learn and maintain authentic morning and evening adhkar.

  • Recite the established protective surahs and supplications.

  • Make sincere dua and ask Allah for protection and well-being.

  • Keep your practice consistent rather than fear-driven.

Do Not Become Dependent on a Practitioner

A responsible practitioner should encourage a person to learn and practice authentic Ruqyah themselves rather than creating unnecessary dependence. Be cautious of anyone who suggests that only their sessions, their water, their objects, or their special knowledge can protect you.

Take Practical Means Too

Religious practice does not remove the need for ordinary practical action. Address family, work, financial, sleep, and other circumstances responsibly, and seek appropriate healthcare for physical or psychological concerns.

What a Practitioner Should Not Decide for You

A Ruqyah practitioner should not diagnose medical or psychiatric conditions, tell you to discontinue prescribed care, accuse another person of causing unseen harm, or guarantee a particular result.

Ruqyah and Reliance Upon Allah

The foundation of Ruqyah is turning to Allah through permissible Qur'anic recitation and authentic supplication. The believer seeks help from Allah while taking appropriate means and avoiding superstition, fear, and exploitation.

The strongest long-term approach is not dependence on a session. It is a consistent life of worship, sound Islamic knowledge, responsible action, and reliance upon Allah.
